Jujutsu (a.k.a. ju-jitsu/jujitsu, ju-jutsu, jiujitsu) is a Japanese martial art and a method of close combat for defeating an armed and armoured opponent in whichone uses no weapon or only a short weapon. The word jujutsu can be broken down into two parts. “Ju” is a concept. The idea behind the meaning of Ju is “to be gentle”, “to give way”, “to yield, “to blend”, “to move out of harm’s way”. “Jutsu” is the principle or “the action” part of Ju-Jutsu. In Japanese this word means science or art which is why Ju-Jutsu is known as the “gentle art”.Dow-Wei-Dan-Chi-Kung-Fa Jujitsu teaches you defence from armed and unarmed attacks, you will also learn to use whatever you can and will do things like throwing, trapping, joint manipulation, holds, gouging, biting, disengagements, striking, kicking, strangles and chokes. You will also learn Atemi waza (Striking vulnerable areas), Ashigi (muscle crushes) and lots more.In Ju-Jutsu, practitioners train in the use of devastating techniques. However, because students are not trained for competitions, risk is minimised. Students are taught break falling skills to allow them to safely practice throwing techniques.

The Ju Jitsu class is run in Canterbury by our coach Ricky Diddell for self defence and protection.
